Welcome to this space dedicated to exploring a remarkable path of spiritual depth: The Gift of Living in the Divine Will.
This spirituality centers on the profound petition found within the Our Father prayer: “Thy Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” It is more than just conforming our actions to God's commandments; it is a call to a total surrender that allows God to possess our will and act through us.
To illustrate this complex concept, let us look at some core ideas:
1. Possessing the Divine Will, Not Just Doing It
A helpful analogy is that traditional holiness is like a faithful servant who perfectly executes the orders of their master. They are external to the will of the master. The "Gift of the Divine Will," however, is like the child of the master who possesses the inheritance. They do not just do the will; they live in it and make it their own. The very acts they perform are animated by the Divine Will.
"Our human will is but a shadow; the Divine Will is the substance. Our journey is to move from the shadow into the full light of the substance."
| Not just doing God’s will from the outside—but living within it as a child in the Father’s house. |
2. The Figure of Luisa Piccarreta
The source of these insights comes from the extensive spiritual diaries of the Servant of God, Luisa Piccarreta (1865–1947). Known as the "Little Daughter of the Divine Will," she spent over 60 years of her life confined to a bed, allegedly surviving solely on the Holy Eucharist.
Luisa’s central task was to record the thousands of conversations she had with Jesus. These detailed dialogues constitute her major work, The Book of Heaven (or The Call to the Creature to Return to the Order, to the Place and to the Purpose for which It was Created by God). This vast work, totaling 36 volumes, outlines the theology of this gift.
3. Understanding the "Fiat" and the "Rounds"
The Fiat: This concept is vital. "Fiat" (meaning let it be done) is the creative power of God. The Divine Will operates through three great Fiats: the Fiat of Creation, the Fiat of Redemption, and now, the Fiat of Sanctification.
The Rounds: A unique form of prayer where the soul "rounds" through all of God's works in Creation, Redemption, and Sanctification. The soul offers glory, love, and thanksgiving on behalf of all creatures, past, present, and future, uniting their "I love you" to God’s massive "I love you" in every created thing.
4. The Path Forward
The Gift of Living in the Divine Will is about returning humanity to the primary state of grace that Adam enjoyed before the Fall—the state of operating completely within the Divine Fiat. It is a spirituality that asks for total trust and abandonment to God's love.
This blog will be a place to reflect on these teachings, explore the "rounds," and share in the beauty of a soul who is truly "sealed with the Precious Blood of Jesus."
